Brazil Motortown Hits
This is probably the first of Brazil's spin-off releases, despite the fact that it was (apparently) released in 1972. In the UK, it appeared in 1970, prior to the release of Sing & Play The Beatles Golden Hits in 1971, and we assume it predates the Brazilian edition of that album too, despite the date. Since we currently have no catalogue number for the LP, we can only speculate. It was, like the Beatles collection, issued on the Premier record label.
The pictures above show the front cover, and a section of the back cover, which is all we currently have. This has been overlaid on a greyed-out copy of the front, for scale. In the UK, the back cover was standard white with black print and so what we can see of this Brazilian design is more adventurous, and in full colour.
Front and back, the original Motown artists who had hits with these songs are listed. On the front, they are in a red tear-away panel, under the headline, "Os Grandes Successos Dos Genios Da Motortown", which translates from the Portuguese as (roughly) "The Big Hits of Motortown's Geniuses" - followed by a list of famous names - Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, etc.
On the back, those star acts are in much bigger type, implying that the LP contains the original recordings. Of course it does not; the contents are by the Poppers and are exactly the same as the UK album. (There is one interesting detail: the back of the UK sleeve has an error, listing a song called "Behind the Painted Smile". The very same error is present here too, despite the redesign.)
