The French Mr Pickwick label took over Top of the Pops releases circa 1974, but were almost exclusively interested in creating their own albums from the songs available. This first LP appeared in
1974 (according to the copyright on the cover photo) but surprisingly,
the most recent titles are sourced from UK volume 32 which appeared as far
back as the middle of 1973.
Mr Pickwick weren't going to acknowledge the earlier jle releases, and the sleeve notes here include the following (translated roughly): "Here, the first volume is finally available in France, of the collections mainly sold in England: the Tops of the Pops. It includes all the pop music hits, at last brought together."
Flashed across the top left corner are the words, "Enregistrements Chantes Par Les Top Of The Pops - Londres" - meaning... "Recordings Sung By Top Of The Pops - London". (Note, the act is simply called Top of the Pops, not Poppers.)
The LP is sub-titled "Les tubes qui font la pop music" - or - "The hits which make pop music". (Or something like that!)
