Israel Volume 69
("12 Songs Rasputin Hit Party") (CSHM 3004)
This album is a very odd late edition from Israel, which is
presumably not a one-off although other similar releases have yet to
come to light. The record is a pressing of the UK Volume 69 from
late 1978, but although the cover art is essentially the same, there is
no "Top of the Pops" logo. Instead, a new title block has been
superimposed, giving the record name as "12 Songs Rasputin Hit Party" in
a similar, but not identical font.
The label here is Chimo, an Israeli label distributed by K-Tel, with whom Top of the Pops had a difficult time in the 1970s, the television-advertised company taking Top of the Pops' UK market away to some extent with their packages of original recordings. Nonetheless, a surprising deal of sorts must have been done for this record.
On the label it states, "Pickwick International" while on the back of the sleeve it states, "Manufactured and Distributed by K-Tel International (Israel)", who are based in Tel Aviv. The label also mis-spells the title (which is of course taken from the song "Rasputin"), as "Raspoutin" - and credits it to "Various Artists".
Interestingly the catalogue number is CSHM 3004. This is the same as the UK number but with a C in front of it - presumably C for Chimo.
