New Zealand "Discomania" (TELE 12) - 1978

This unusual New Zealand album appeared in 1978, and compiled tracks from Top of the Pops alongside a couple of other recordings from an unknown source. According to the cover it was actually advertised on New Zealand television, which might possibly be a unique occurence in the world of Top of the Pops. This illustrates the commercial viability in that country, of the Music World label. The album also apparently included a "Disco dance instruction booklet"!
So what of the recordings? As the cover again explains, the contents of the album were "Sound Alike Hits Recorded in USA & Britain". The Poppers recordings are presumably the full extent of the British tracks, and the USA ones the non-Top of the Pops tracks. Exactly where these are sourced is not currently known, but there are only two titles in question: "Grease" and "Thank God It's Friday". (Since the album does not credit Top of the Pops, these two should not be classified as Poppers tracks.)
The Top of the Pops material ranges across Volumes 62 to 67. As one might expect given the vintage, there are plenty of tracks connected to the current Bee Gees / John Travolta movies Grease and Saturday Night Fever. (The label itself, and the cassette label (below) name the album incorrectly as Disco Fever - possibly left over from an abandoned idea to cash in on the popular movie.)
