Portugal
We have identified a few Portuguese editions of Top of the Pops, although there are likely to be many more in existence, given the gaps between the volume numbers we do know of. Research is hampered by the fact that Portugal, like several other countries, left the UK covers essentially unchanged, and even retained the catalogue numbers. The real differences can be seen on the backs of the sleeves, and the labels themselves which are almost the same as the UK ones, except that they are coloured a sort of bronze-brown.
The sleeves are very slim - like 12-inch single sleeves - and a little smaller than the UK ones. (In this respect they resemble the Spanish sleeves.)
It is noticeable that there is absolutely nothing on them to inform us that these were specifically Portuguese editions. The only minute clue is that one of them has "Gloso, LDA" printed in tiny letters on the back of the sleeve. "LDA" seems to be the Portuguese abbreviation for "Limitada" - meaning "Limited", as in limited company. Gloso are presumably the printers of the sleeve.
In addition to the albums, we have found a series of single releases. These were put out either in association with, or outright, by the Portuguese label, Imavox. They stretch over several years and there are doubtless gaps in our knowledge. (These singles are similar to those released in Italy, but not the same.)
We hope to add more to this listing in due course.
