Sleeve notes:

We've done it!

Muchas gracias, grazie mille, and a thousand thanks to all you nice Pop fans who helped to hoist our last Top of the Pops album (SHM.735) to the No.1 spot in the "Record Retailer" National L.P. Chart. D'you know what this means? It means we've outsold all the big, big names, the Pop Super Stars and the International Groups, for the first time in history!

How about that?

Now we're at No.1, we intend, with your help, to stay there. We believe we've made another great selection of pop tunes, all high-steppers in the charts. So, let's see if we can make it a double No.1, shall we?

"Top of the Pops" fans - we love you!

Comments: The claims in the sleeve notes about the previous edition's chart performance are incorrect. Volume 16 was not eligible for listing. However, Top of the Pops did become eligible a while after Volume 17 was released - and so it scraped into the charts. See below for details.

Following the complaints which the cover of Volume 16 had provoked, Hallmark took no chances with the next LP, seeing to it that the lady on the front was securely wrapped from collar to socks. As with Volume 16, this cover image was commission by a well-known photographer, Tom Hanley the man behind the camera. He is credited on the back of the sleeve.
