Sleeve notes:
Ring out the old, ring in the new With Top of the Pops made specially for you 16 smash hits taken straight from the chart All beautifully sung to warm every heart |
Comments: This is the first non-Bruce Baxter LP in the series, and with the constraints of the usual workload now lifted, Top of the Pops was free to expand to 16 tracks per LP, something previously seen only on the special edition, Volume 50. This would become the norm from here on. Courtesy of the company behind the recordings, Coombe Music, several of these tracks would also appear on the rival label Chevron's current Parade of Pops album, a cross-over which would also become standard practice.
Cover star Alison Begg, of page 3 fame, appears here dolled up as a curiously slim-line, un-bearded Father Christmas. In a leotard.
On the back, there's an old friend to greet us: it's Mr Pickwick from those old EPs, out of retirement for his first public appearance in years with his brother Dr. Pickwick (see Volume 69).
