Another French-compiled album which claims to be Volume 1 of a series which never emerged, Discotheque Hits includes three tracks never released by the Top of the Poppers in the UK (or,
indeed, anywhere else): "Shame Shame
Shame", "Sister Jane", and "Each Love Will Keep Us Together".
The titles are covers of the following, and it will be noted that the French office did a rather poor job of naming the songs:
"Sister James" remains of unknown origins, while the other tracks are of course taken from UK Volumes 46 (two titles) and 47 (seven titles), dating the set to mid-1975.
The cover shot will be familiar - it is of course Susy Shaw, in her Top of the Pops T-shirt, as originally featured on UK Volume 37, over a year earlier. Emblazened across the front of the sleeve is the slogan, "Enregistrements Chantes Par Les Tops Of The Poppers" - or - "Recordings Sung By The Top Of The Poppers".
The titles are covers of the following, and it will be noted that the French office did a rather poor job of naming the songs:
- "Shame Shame Shame" was a 1975 dance hit for Shirley & Company.
- "Sister Jane" was in fact the song "Sister James", a hit for Nina Tempo, wrongly titled. ("Sister Jane" is in fact a separate song, which was a hit for New World.)
- "Each Love Will Keep Us Together" is a version of the Neil Sedaka-penned track, which should have been titled "Love Will Keep Us Together", and which Captain & Tennille hit with in 1975.
