Spain "Red Hot Black Music Hits"
("Historia De La Musica Negra")
(3 LPs: L-606/L-607/L-608)
This release consists of a 3-LP set which is in effect, the Spanish edition of 50 Red Hot Black Music Hits. The albums came out on the Olympo record label, which is a subsidiary of Ediciones Fonográfica.
They date to 1977, and each LP has its own catalogue number: L-606 ; L-607; L-608. The cover art borrows from the UK album inasmuch as the flames are retained - although what they are supposed to signify is unclear! |
The title translates to History of
Black Music, which given the ancient artefact on one of the covers, is a
little misleading. (The material on offer goes back less than a
decade!)
The tracks are the same, but it will be noted that only 49 of the 50 titles appear - the unlucky one is "Walk In The Night" from volume 26, which appears to have been dropped, presumably due to play-time limitations.
The sets are sequenced as follows:

The Olympo label seems to be a Spanish budget label. It has released albums such as "Espana 77", "Espana 78" and "Especial Vacaciones", which contain anonymous covers of pop hits. Not all the titles exist in the Top of the Pops discography, but there is the possibility that at least some are from the series since they also released a copy of volume 62 in 1977 (see next page).
Cassette edition
The set was also released on cassette. Shown above are volumes 1 and 3 - it seems inconceivable that volume 2 was not issued as well.
